I grew up in Kansas City. That means I grew up with opinions about BBQ sauce before I had opinions about most things. Before politics. Before music. Before which team I'd bleed for on Sunday. In KC, sauce is not a condiment — it is a conviction. You defend your favorite sauce the way other cities defend their pizza or their chili. With passion, with data, and occasionally with a raised voice.

So when I started seriously exploring the hot sauce aisle, the BBQ shelves, the salsa section — I got frustrated. Fast. Not by the sauces themselves, but by the information available about them. Every "best hot sauce" list I found was either wrapped in affiliate links, sponsored by a brand, or written by someone who clearly hadn't opened half the bottles they ranked. The reviews were shallow. The rankings were bought. The recommendations were useless.

"The sauce world deserves better than sponsored content dressed up as journalism."

So we built iHEARTsauce. Not as a business first. As a mission. A commitment to doing this right — with no brand deals, no paid placements, no affiliate bias, and no shortcuts. Every sauce we rank, we buy with our own money. Every score we publish, we build from real data. Every recommendation we make, we'd make to our own family at the dinner table.

The Mission

What We're Actually Doing Here

We are on a mission to find the best sauces on the planet. Full stop. That means BBQ sauces, hot sauces, and salsas — the three pillars of the sauce world — ranked with rigor, reviewed with honesty, and written with the respect these products deserve.

We are not going to tell you Sweet Baby Ray's is the best BBQ sauce because they paid for a placement. We are not going to bury Blues Hog because they're a smaller brand with less marketing budget. The data tells the story, and the data is the only thing that does.

If a $4 bottle from a gas station in Louisiana beats a $28 artisan craft sauce from Brooklyn in a blind tasting — and it has, more than once — we say that. Loudly. Without apology. Because that's what you deserve to know.

BBQ Sauce

This is where I started, and Kansas City is where that obsession was born. I've tasted everything from the grocery aisle staples to the competition circuit legends. Some of the best sauces you'll ever pour came from people whose names you'll never see on a Food Network special. We're changing that.

Hot Sauce

The hot sauce world is a beautiful mess of regional traditions, global influences, and unhinged heat levels. We cover all of it — from the Louisiana classics that belong on every breakfast table to the superhots that exist purely to test your limits. What we won't do is dismiss a $3 bottle because it's not artisan, or elevate a $30 bottle because of its packaging.

Salsa

Salsa is the most underrated category in the sauce world. The gap between a great jar and a mediocre jar is enormous — and most people never know because they've only ever bought the same brand at the same grocery store. We're here to change that. Rick Bayless has been making extraordinary salsas for decades. So have brands you've never seen outside of their home region. We find them all.

The Promise

What We Will Never Do

We will never accept payment from a brand in exchange for a higher ranking. If Sweet Baby Ray's wants to advertise on this site someday, great — but the ad will be clearly labeled, and it will have zero effect on where they appear in our rankings. The firewall between our editorial and any commercial relationship is absolute.

We will never rank a sauce we haven't personally tested. Every product on this site has been purchased at full retail price by a member of this team, opened, tasted, evaluated, and scored. No exceptions.

We will never bury a small brand because they can't buy exposure. Some of the greatest sauces being made right now are being made in small batches by people with no marketing budget and no distributor relationship. If it's great, you'll find it here.

"Kansas City raised me to take BBQ seriously. This site is me taking it seriously for the rest of the sauce world too."

We are building the most honest, data-driven, community-supported sauce resource on the internet. The rankings you see on this site will be updated constantly as new products emerge, as community feedback comes in, and as our own tasting panels evolve. This is not a static list. It is a living document. A love letter to sauce, updated in real time.

Welcome to iHEARTsauce

This is our launch post. We have a lot more coming — deep dives into specific sauce categories, blind tasting results, regional roundups, recipe integrations, and a community ranking system that we're genuinely excited to build with you.

If you're a sauce maker who wants their product reviewed, reach out. We will buy it ourselves — we do not accept free samples in exchange for coverage — but we want to know you exist.

If you're a sauce lover who has a recommendation, a disagreement, or an opinion you want on the record: reach out. We read everything. We respond to most.

And if you're from Kansas City — you already know why this had to exist.
